Not Every June is a Whopper Month!

Not every June is a whopper month, it all depends on a lot of what’s, why’s, where’s, who’s, and wow’s! So this past June WAS a whopper!

Well, June is always my birthday and my second oldest and second youngest granddaughter’s birthday month, and to remember my twin who passed away many years ago. While these are not unimportant occasions, they are not like the whopper of reaching your 90th birthday, celebrating it with a two year old granddaughter, two sparkling daughters, two equally sparkling older granddaughters, a sparkling wife, two great sons-in-law and a great grandson-in-law to be. They made my 90th birthday celebration a big winner!

It is not my nature to want to be the center of attention or the main focus of something, so we celebrated Avery’s birthday and Sybil’s which had taken place in March, too!. The family had a crown for each of our heads, and having two of the three grand babies celebrating on the throne with me made the occasion more special!

We were blessed with a long visit from our New Yorkers, and this gave my special five from my family tree to visit for the first time ever in most cases a site that proudly proclaims the heritage of their ancestors, the Texas Heritage Wendish Museum, the ancient log buildings, the beautiful old Mother Church, and the new structural additions. It was very touching to me to have my children and grandchildren experience this part of their ethnicity. As part of the Wendish tradition, we are an humble people, pleased that our forebears were simple, unpretentious, God-fearing, compassionate, salt of the earth people.

God has blessed me in so many, many ways during these 90 years, so I wanted to take this moment to thank Him and to thank each and every person who walked all or part of this journey with me. I want to especially thank my wife whose strong shoulder has been mine to lean on for more than fifty of these years.
